Hi everyone, welcome to my corner of the web! My name is Jimmy, and I created this website as a comprehensive collection of my ideas, designs, and creations, with the hope that it may be useful for some people out there!
I am from Toronto, and studied at Queen's University for my undergraduate degree of Bachelor of Science Engineer, majoring in Engineering Physics - electrical option. I had an exposure to a variety of topics in physics and electronics, from quantum mechanics to solid state physics, to fiber optics. Of note, for the Final Design Project and Thesis Project, I designed a robotic prosthetic arm, and an inertial electrostatic confinement fusion reactor, respectively.
After completing my undergrad degree, I stayed at Queen's (I loved the school and the city) and completed a Master of Applied Science degree in Physics - Optics. My research topic was mainly concerning improving the efficiencies of thin film photovoltaics (solar cells). In particular, I was designing and experimenting with the fabrication of nano-scale gratings using photosensitive azopolymer material (via interference lithography) to couple surface plasmons on the cathode of the solar cell, in order to improve light collection efficiency.
As a side project, I designed and optimized a new type of transparent conductive electrode (not too many materials are both optically transparent and electrically conductive!) using a multi-layer structure of MoO3 and Ag thin films. The goal was to replace the more expensive and difficult to fabricate ITO electrode.
As you may discover, I like to tinker around in my free time. My interests range from building Tesla coils and transparent keyboards, to making go-karts and forging Damascus blades! I can't really say any one of my projects is my favourite, as I love a variety of activities and I am constantly discovering new things.
